Tea Leaf Dream Ep Set to Drop on Future Sonner Records

For those who’ve been watching Cape Town’s underground scene closely, the name FVRGER has become synonymous with raw emotion, genre-fluid experimentation, and a live presence that refuses to be boxed in. Now, the multifaceted artist is preparing to release a two-track EP via Future Sonner Records— a project that bridges five years of musical evolution and personal history.

Who Is FVRGER?

To understand the music, you first have to understand the artist behind it. FVRGER isn’t a single character — it’s a collective of personalities, each surfacing through different tracks and moments. “FVRGER is a musical artist made up of many characters, no definitions or confines,” he explains. “Many personalities appear in FVRGER’s music.”

Originating from Johannesburg and raised in the Eastern Cape, FVRGER carries the weight of multiple cultures and landscapes. Now based in Cape Town, that rich background seeps into every note he creates. 

The Labels That Shaped the Sound

FVRGER’s journey has been guided by two key label affiliations: Hotboxed CG and Teal Street. Hotboxed entered the picture early, becoming a launching pad during high school. “Hotboxed has always been an agent in the west,” FVRGER recalls. “The people I met from Hotboxed put me on when I was in high school, gave me my first festival performance and first official label release locally — they’ve always had my back.” For FVRGER, Hotboxed remains “an avenue for my soul-infused music.”

Teal Street, on the other hand, emerged more organically. “Teal Street appeared naturally when Fernando and I connected in the same neighbourhood and figured out we had a mutual understanding of emotion for music and instruments.” It became a safe space for homage — a place where FVRGER could honour he's musical history. “Being able to record that trumpet onto the latest LP is something I never foresaw, hence I’m eternally grateful.”

A Full Circle Moment

The upcoming Future Sonner Records EP carries particular weight. The two tracks span half a decade: one written in high school, the other crafted just last year. “It feels as if I’ve been caught in a full circle,” FVRGER shares. “This release showcases my house-side progression over the last 5 years.”

The Studio Ethic: More Than Just Cape Town

FVRGER’s dynamic live presence around Cape Town is well-documented, but the studio is where the real graft happens. “I don’t actually know who I am to other people around CPT and I’m sure everyone sees me in a different way,” he admits. “If there’s one thing that I’ve always tried to represent, it’s that I stand for genuine artistic creation and presence — I come from not one, but multiple backgrounds and I feel deeply — I try my best to put this into my ethic in the studio as that is what matters to me most.”

Despite the Cape Town spotlight, FVRGER’s vision stretches far beyond the Mother City. “This music thing for me is for the world, for my people back in Jozi, Makhanda and Qeberha, not just the city of Cape Town.”

What’s Next?

With the EP on the horizon, FVRGER is ready to step out of the shadows. “I’ve become aware and slightly impatient of being so private with releasing music — this year alone I have given a lot to my creations as well as learning everything I can from the people I surround myself with.” The aim? To keep pushing forward, keep creating, and keep sharing.

For an artist who exists in multiple characters, across multiple cities, and through multiple years of music, FVRGER’s upcoming EP isn’t just a release — it’s a homecoming.
